Classes
Seishin Shotokan Karate Clubs strive, through regular training, to improve ourselves and learn respect for others. The "Dojo Kun" is applied in both Brighton and Cuckfield dojos, so no matter which one you attend; the basic principles are the same. Classes vary in both pace and content, so no matter your age or ability, you should find something that works for you.
Our classes typically run for an hour and a half and include:
Warm-up, fitness, conditioning & stretching
Every class incorporates a structured warm-up that includes exercises to improve fitness, develop core strength, and improve flexibility.
Khion (technical training)
The learning, application and perfection of karate techniques - punching, kicking, striking and blocking. This can also include body conditioning and fitness training.
Kata (forms) & Bunkai (application)
Practicing one of the 27 kata that form the Shotokan syllabus. Kata and bunkai allow us to study techniques that are effective against multiple opponents. Kata increase in intensity and difficulty as a student progresses.
Kumite (fighting & self-defence)
The art of applying the techniques learned in khion training to a fighting situation. We endeavour to ensure that the kumite is aimed at the correct level/ age of the student. In the early stages of training, kumite is practiced in a very controlled manner. We also regularly practice practical.
